MOUNTAINLANDS TRANSITIONS

With the award of a HUD Continuum of Care grant, MCHT has been able to develop a transitional housing program in Park City. The project consists of 5 scattered site leased units. It will be expanded to 9 units in June 2008.

This program is the first of its kind in Summit County and provides temporary housing and support services for families and individuals in need. Eligible participants are provided with a place to live and are connected with available resources, case management and mentorship. MCHT’s commitment to these families and individuals is to create a bridge to independence, enhanced life skills, and affinity within our community. Some participants of the Transitional Housing project are targeted for potential homeownership.

The program is funded by a HUD Supportive Housing grant that allows MCHT to work with individuals and families who are facing homelessness. To date, 85% of families have become homeless through domestic violence. Once qualified for the program, tenants set their goals on sustainable, long-term housing and how they can overcome the obstacles they faced prior to entering the program. The goals include accessing mainstream resources, social services, financial literacy education, language and literacy programs. Participants can enroll in a variety of parenting programs, and volunteering in the community is encouraged.

MCHT currently has five apartments for transitional housing and oversees and delivers the case management to participants. MCHT actively seeks out social services that can assist in the success of the clients. Participants also meet with their caseworker on a weekly basis to check the status of their progress. To date, 39 families and 86 individuals have participated in the program.

Currently the program is full with a waiting list.
